My Novel
When Hushed Voices Die
A gothic romantic story shaped by music, longing, and the quiet spaces between emotion and silence.
Originally published in English in 2021, the novel has since been revised and expanded into a new Chinese edition completed in 2026. This story represents the emotional core of Lisa’s artistic identity — the reason she plays piano, the world she writes from, and the inner landscape that inspires her compositions.

The Story Behind the Story
“When Hushed Voices Die” is more than a novel — it is the artistic origin of Lisa’s identity as a pianist. The book explores the emotional landscape that shaped her musical voice: the gothic romantic sensibility, the introspective atmosphere, and the deep connection between sound and feeling.
Writing the novel and composing its music became a single creative act — two languages expressing the same inner world.

Hear the Story Begin
A voice from another time.
A voice that knows her music better than she does.
A voice that sees the part of her she hides from everyone else.
In When Hushed Voices Die, love crosses the boundary between the living and the lost, and music becomes the bridge between two souls separated by a century. It is a story about longing, sacrifice, and the kind of connection that reshapes a life forever.
Why I Wrote the Story
When Hushed Voices Die was born during the quiet, suspended days of the 2020 lockdown. I spent long hours practicing piano alone in my basement, the world outside cold and still. In that solitude, time felt frozen — just me, my soul, the sound of the piano, and something unseen in the air that seemed to be listening.
There was a strange comfort in that space, a private world that belonged entirely to me. I found solace in the silence, in the echo of each note, in the feeling that something beyond myself was present and attentive. That mysterious connection — that bond between sound, solitude, and the unseen listener — became the seed of my story.
When Hushed Voices Die grew out of that moment: a story shaped by isolation, introspection, and the quiet beauty of being heard by something you cannot see.
